Video clip: Rattle snake surprise! (Click on Image)Brave Paul D. Tuff, Rosalinda’s doumentation companion on this walk, is the author of this amazing footage.
Sneak peek at a rare moment in Rocky Springs on Mt. Tam. we heard a rustle in the grass. Upon taking a closer look, we discovered a snake pit: local rattle snakes had taken over the water hole. Surprise!
It was a severely dry summer in 2015, so the rattlers had found their ideal nesting spot. Cool, shady, and water. Rattle snakes are deadly. However, they send out a signal with their tail; it rattles just before attack. The young ones are usually anxious. Watch how the young dance before your eyes! In over 40 years of hiking California, never had we ever encountered a vast number of rattlers in one site! Seeing is believing! Not recommended for tourists.
